Collaboration to Realize Clean Water Access: Inauguration of Tapping Well in South Central Timor, NTT
02 December 2024
Soe, 2 December 2024 – Access to clean water is still one of the main challenges in East Nusa Tenggara Province. To address this challenge, collaboration between Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia), the Indonesian Capital Market which includes the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the Indonesian Securities Guarantee Clearing House (KPEI), and the Indonesian Central Securities Depository (KSEI) has made it possible to build a tapping well in Oelet Village, East Amanuban District, South Central Timor Regency (TTS). Today, the facility was inaugurated as part of a joint commitment to provide access to clean water for the community.
With limited water sources and hilly topography, the first tapping well in TTS is expected to be a sustainable solution to meet the clean water needs of the local community. Semuel Apsalon Niap, Area Program Manager of Plan Indonesia, explained that efforts to bring access to clean water in less than 30 minutes continue to be carried out as part of attention to children, especially women, who are vulnerable to risks when fetching water from long distances.
“We hope that children can have more time to learn, play, and not be late for school. We appreciate this joint collaboration with Green Water Life and the Indonesian Capital Market which certainly supports the TTS Regional Government in its efforts to prevent and reduce stunting,” he explained.
The construction of clean water facilities includes 500 meters of transmission pipelines, 900 meters of distribution pipelines, 1 unit of water intake wells and water pumps, 1 unit of main reservoir, 1 unit of solar power plant (PLTS), 1 unit of box valve or valve box, and 3 public hydrants.
Jeffrey Hendrik, Chairman of the 46th Anniversary Committee of Pasar Modal Indonesia, stated, “Clean water is a basic need, and its fulfillment requires joint work. Pasar Modal Indonesia is proud to support this initiative through funding as a tangible manifestation of the spirit of collaboration. We believe that by bringing access to clean water closer, we not only encourage clean and healthy living behavior, but also contribute to the great effort to prevent stunting for a better future.”
The construction of this clean water facility is the result of engineering water collection techniques with the concept of tapping the water flow in the river body. The tapped water is collected in a well, then, with technical calculations, flowed into a reservoir or water storage tub and channeled to a public hydrant. Public hydrants are containers that can be directly accessed by the community.
The inauguration was also attended by the Acting Regent of TTS represented by …, the 46th Anniversary Committee of the Indonesian Capital Market represented by the Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Representative Office of the Indonesia Stock Exchange, Adevi Sabath and the Plan Indonesia Program Area Manager, Soe Area, Marina Meidiyanti.
